We believe that being able to work and play cooperatively with peers is an important component of a child’s development as a whole person.
Some children find socialising with their peers in informal situations challenging. This may be due to shyness, a lack of physical skills to play games or behavioural issues. In these situations children need support to develop the necessary skills to be able to be active, positive participants in the playground.
At Carlton we employ a coordinator to supervise and work with a group of identified students in the playground during the lunch hour. The aim is to support these students to integrate with their peers, and to maintain a positive environment for all Carlton students.
As group members show they have developed the necessary social skills they are re-integrated into the playground so the supervised play group is a fluid arrangement. |
