HABITS OF MIND @ CARLTON SCHOOL

In 2010 Carlton School began implementing the Habits of Mind. Habits of Mind are intellectual dispositions that enable us to cope with a rapidly changing world. There are 16 Habits of Mind that have been identified as powerful tools that we can use to navigate our increasingly complex environment. These skills, once internalised, promote lifelong learning both within the classroom and the world beyond it. These mindful Habits are seldom used in isolation and support the growth of intelligent behaviours.

The 16 Habits of Mind are:

Persisting,  Managing Impulsivity,  Listening to Others with Understanding and Empathy, Thinking Flexibly,  Thinking about Thinking (Metacognition),  Striving for Accuracy and Precision,  Questioning and Posing Problems,  Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations, Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision,  Gathering Data Through All Senses, Creating, Imagining and Innovating,  Responding with Wonderment and Awe, Taking Responsible Risks,  Finding Humour,  Thinking Interdependently,   Learning Continuously.

The Habits are being integrating into all aspects of Carlton School’s learning and teaching, and school culture.

HONESTY, LOYALTY, COURAGE
