CARLTON SCHOOL GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS ON CAMPS

Camps are a wonderful opportunity to have fun with your children and to learn along side them.

  • Parents who volunteer to support a school camp are required to complete a School Volunteer Competence Form (this clarifies the skills you bring  to the camping experience e.g. drivers license, first aid etc. It is not necessary to have these skills to volunteer for camp) and a Health Form.
  • Ensure that support is given to the teacher/s who are leading the camp by enforcing the rules and expectations set for students, and by fulfilling the role you have been given.
  • Be prepared to be rostered on duties involving food preparation/general housekeeping duties/children’s schoolwork and recreational activities.
  • Be responsible for supervising groups of students on camp activities/walks/ EOTC experiences, and ensure safety rules are complied with.
  • Address any concerns regarding students/parents/ other adults/camp organization with the lead teacher responsible for the camp immediately.
  • Matters regarding administration of medicines or general well being of children need to be checked with either the lead teacher or e fun with the adult responsible for the medical welfare of the children.
  • Responsibility for the care of children extends to recreational times and overnight, therefore it is important to ensure that each adult has sufficient sleep in order to provide a high level of care, and be able to respond to any emergency at any time.
  • No alcohol, or any illegal drugs are permitted at camps.
  • In the event of an emergency or crisis the lead teacher must be notified immediately.
  • In order to maintain the required adult/student ratio parent volunteers must be prepared to remain on-site for the duration of the camp and to take part in all activities if required.
  • Parents are role models and as such need to have a positive attitude towards all camp activities and encourage students to participate fully.
  • If you are prepared to volunteer for camp it is vital you attend all camp meetings.
