Introduction

Leadership and role modelling by senior students actively contributes to the school culture and to the individuals growth as a rounded person. All students are encouraged to aspire to fulfil these roles.

 

Applicants

All year six students who have been enrolled at Carlton for a period of two or more years. This allows students' the oppurtunity to exhibit leadership and role model qualities across a wide range of situations. It allows staff members to observe and interact with students' over a period of time and in a range of situations.

 

Training

During their year five students have the oppurtunity to -

  1. lead the team assembly every week, and
  2. stand in for year six students on school wide duties when they are out of the school.
  3. undertake specific school-wide duties e.g. Fruit in Schools, paper recycling

 

Process

At the start of the school year Ms Wyatt and Ms O'Connor address the year six students on school leadership. An application form is discussed and distributed. Students take it home to discuss with family but it is completed at school. Students apply for either school leader or head boy / girl, or both. Teachers actively encourage students to apply.

 

Selection

Once application forms are returned the teachers of the Senior team meet to shortlist applicants. Decisions are made with reference to behavioural records and testaments from teachers. The shortlist is scrutinised by the Principal with whom the final decision rests.

 

Outcome

The families of successful applicants are invited to the assembly when the presentation of badges is made and asked to keep it secret until then.

 

Note

School leaders are made fully aware that any transgression, breaking of school rules or any behaviour that brings the position into disrepute will result in their relinquishing their position.
