At Carlton we provide a range of programmes designed meet the diverse learning and social needs of our students.

These programmes are funded by the Board of Trustees through the operations grant and utilise monies from the Ministry of Education under the Special Education Grant (SEG) allowance. (This allowance is based on roll size not on the actual numbers of students with needs).

Boys Class>  A boys only class was established in 2009 to maximise student engagement in learning by recognising and accommodating their differences, to minimise the amount of teacher time lost in dealing with behavioural issues on a continual basis, to implement programmes and actions that will encourage students to reject anti-social behaviour and to provide specific programmes for identified students with the intention of changing behaviours into those that are constructive and positive in the learning environment and social context. read more…..

Lexia Programme>

A learning programme for Years 0-4 students.

Lexia Reading is a web –enabled literacy programme that  correlates to the Ministry of Education Literacy Learning Progressions and focuses on the essential reading skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Students complete an initial  diagnostic task that places them at their skill level. From here the students work independently for ten minute sessions at their level and receive feedback after each task. Students  find this highly motivating as they track their own progress and identify  their next learning steps. The Lexia Reading programme provides valuable feedback for teachers to enable them to plan, track  assesses and report on individual and  whole class student progress . The range of  levels within the Lexia Reading programme means we can cater for all students and use it both as a support and extension depending on individual needs.
